Lipedema Patient Case Study 1

Case Study
Sandra Assimotos McElwee

“I was told I would eventually grow so large that I would be unable to walk, and I’d need a wheelchair or a scooter to get around. That was unacceptable to me. I love to travel and I can’t see the world, climb the pyramids and the Acropolis or snorkel with wild dolphins in a wheelchair.

My inner thighs are significantly smaller, and I can actually put one foot in front of the other, unlike I had been able to do in ages. I’ve always had a lot of energy, but now my spirits are lifted too. Life is great!“

Patient Story:
Sandra started showing symptoms of lipedema in her early adolescent years, and suffered for the majority of her life before she was able to receive treatment. Since age 11, she had a difficult time finding pants that would fit over her thighs, and at school, she was known as “the ankle-less women.” Sandra started gaining weight on purpose in attempt to create a more equally proportioned body because it was easier to find clothes that properly fit.

After being told by her doctor to lose weight Sandra lost 50 lbs., but saw no difference in the size of her thighs and calves, which prompted her search for answers. In her 40s Sandra was misdiagnosed with lymphedema and after months of no results from treatment, Sandra’s physical therapist recommended she research Lipedema. She saw countless doctors and surgeons all unwilling to perform local tumescent liposuction, the necessary procedure Sandra needed to cure her lipedema. After conducting online research for Lipedema, Sandra was lead to Dr. Amron’s website, and her world finally made sense. After watching all the videos on Dr. Amron’s website, she called to schedule an appointment to receive the surgery that would change her life.

Patient’s Current Status:

Sandra now is well on her way to recovery and continuing to properly diet and exercise.
